Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced a major expansion of the province’s electric bus network as part of the government’s Green Electric Bus initiative. The project aims to improve public transportation while promoting environmentally friendly travel across Punjab.

Speaking at the launch ceremony in Lahore, Maryam Nawaz said the provincial government is committed to transforming Punjab’s public transport system through sustainable mobility solutions. She announced that approximately 1,100 electric buses are expected to be operating across different cities of Punjab by August 15, significantly increasing access to clean public transportation.

The chief minister further revealed that 1,500 new electric buses are scheduled to arrive during the current year. With these additions, the provincial fleet is expected to grow to 3,000 electric buses over the next three years, making it one of the largest green public transport projects in the country.

Maryam Nawaz also shared the government’s long-term vision for the initiative, stating that Punjab plans to expand the electric bus fleet to 5,000 buses within the next five years. She said the project reflects the government’s commitment to improving urban mobility while supporting environmental sustainability and reducing dependence on conventional fuel-powered vehicles.

The Green electric bus initiative is part of Punjab’s broader efforts to modernize its transportation infrastructure and provide affordable travel facilities to the public. Officials believe the expansion will improve daily commuting, reduce traffic-related pollution, and encourage the use of clean energy in the transport sector.

The provincial government expects the growing electric bus network to benefit thousands of passengers every day while contributing to a cleaner environment and a more efficient public transportation system throughout Punjab.
