FBR To Begin Blocking Mobile Phones and SIMs of Non-filers

The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) is gearing up to implement a series of stringent measures aimed at tightening control over non-filers. Insider information suggests that, in the initial phase, the FBR will proceed to block mobile SIM cards and phones belonging to non-filers.

To formalize this action, the FBR plans to issue the Income Tax General order by January 15.

Additionally, the FBR is formulating a strategy to disconnect electricity services for non-filers, although there is a current lack of comprehensive data on the electricity connections of this group.

The FBR is cautious about potential legal challenges that may arise from cutting electricity connections.

It is worth noting that the FBR achieved a historic milestone by collecting Rs. 1,021 billion in a single month (December 2023) for the first time.

An official statement from the FBR highlights that not only were the targets for the month met but also exceeded for the initial six months of the current financial year.
