Electric Bike Buyers to Receive Rs80,000 Government Subsidy

The government has announced Rs9 billion in subsidies to encourage the purchase of electric motorcycles and three-wheelers, aiming to speed up the country’s transition to cleaner and more environmentally friendly transportation.

As part of the initiative, buyers of electric motorcycles will be able to receive a subsidy of up to Rs80,000 per vehicle. The financial support is intended to make electric vehicles more affordable, particularly for low- and middle-income families who are looking for cost-effective transport options.

The details were shared during a briefing to the Senate Standing Committee on Industries and Production, where officials discussed the progress of Pakistan’s Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy. According to the briefing, the government expects the number of electric vehicles on Pakistani roads to reach 2.2 million by 2030.

Officials informed the committee that the national EV policy is moving forward successfully and is expected to play an important role in reducing fuel consumption, lowering carbon emissions, and promoting cleaner transport across the country. They said a growing share of vehicles on Pakistan’s roads is expected to shift from conventional fuel-powered engines to battery-powered electric vehicles over the coming years.

The briefing also highlighted progress in local manufacturing. According to officials, Pakistan has already produced more than 12,800 electric vehicles and around 160,000 electric motorcycles through domestic manufacturers. The increase in local production is expected to strengthen the country’s automotive sector while reducing dependence on imported fuel.

The subsidy program is also expected to encourage investment in the electric vehicle industry, create new employment opportunities, and support the development of charging infrastructure. Officials believe the initiative will make electric mobility more accessible while helping Pakistan achieve its environmental and energy goals.

With financial incentives now available, the government hopes more consumers will choose electric motorcycles and three-wheelers, accelerating the country’s shift toward sustainable transportation and supporting long-term economic and environmental benefits.
