Pakistani students will have another opportunity to pursue higher education in the United Kingdom through a new partnership between the UK government’s Chevening Scholarship Programme and Allied Bank Limited (ABL).
The partnership will provide fully funded master’s scholarships to Pakistani students at leading universities across the UK. According to the British High Commission, the Chevening-ABL Scholarship Programme will support two Pakistani students every year for three academic years, starting from the 2027-28 academic session.
The initiative aims to help talented students gain international education and develop professional skills in important fields. It will also support Pakistan’s efforts to build expertise in technology, finance and other areas that are becoming increasingly important for the country’s development.
Which Subjects Will Be Covered?
The new scholarship programme will focus on several academic and professional fields. These include artificial intelligence, technology, cybersecurity, digital transformation, economics and financial inclusion.
Students interested in pursuing master’s degrees in these areas will be among the main beneficiaries of the partnership.
The selected candidates will have the opportunity to study at leading UK universities and gain exposure to international education, research and professional environments.
The programme is also designed to encourage scholars to return to Pakistan after completing their studies and use their knowledge and experience to contribute to the country’s development.
When Will Applications Open?
According to the announced details, the first two scholarship recipients will be selected from the existing Chevening applicant pool for the 2027-28 academic year.
This means the first selected students will come from candidates who have already applied through the Chevening programme.
Applications for the 2028-29 Chevening-ABL scholarships are expected to open in August 2027. Successful candidates will begin their studies in the United Kingdom in 2028.
The partnership will continue for three academic years, providing funding for two Pakistani students annually.
British High Commission Welcomes Partnership
British High Commissioner Jane Marriott welcomed the partnership and said it would help talented Pakistani students access educational opportunities at leading universities in the United Kingdom.
She highlighted the importance of providing students with international exposure and allowing them to return with new ideas, knowledge and professional skills.
Allied Bank President and CEO Aizid Gill also welcomed the initiative. He previously received a Chevening scholarship in 2001 and studied at the University of Manchester.
He said the partnership would help Pakistani students gain international exposure and develop skills that could contribute to the country’s future.
What Does the Chevening Scholarship Cover?
Chevening is the UK government’s international scholarship programme, funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO) and partner organisations.
The programme offers fully funded one-year master’s degrees at UK universities.
The scholarship generally covers major study-related expenses, including:
- Full university tuition fees.
- Monthly living allowance.
- Travel costs to and from the United Kingdom.
- Other eligible allowances under the Chevening programme.
The new partnership with Allied Bank will provide additional opportunities for Pakistani students seeking international education without having to bear the major financial costs themselves.
With scholarships focusing on technology, artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and economics, the initiative is expected to attract students interested in developing expertise in these growing fields.
