The Capital Development Authority (CDA) board has approved a proposal to procure four double-decker buses to promote tourism in Islamabad. The decision was taken during a board meeting chaired by CDA Chairman Sohail Ashraf.
The new buses are expected to provide tourists and visitors with another way to explore the capital and visit its major attractions. The initiative is part of broader efforts to improve tourism facilities and introduce new visitor experiences in Islamabad.
During the meeting, the CDA board also discussed plans for a major zipline project in the Margalla Hills. The authority is considering a proposal described as the “world’s longest” zipline, which could become a major attraction for visitors if the project moves forward.
The board agreed to hire a consultant to conduct a detailed feasibility study and prepare the engineering design for the proposed zipline. The study will help determine the technical requirements, safety arrangements, location and overall feasibility of the project before construction begins.
The CDA board also reviewed the long-delayed revision of Islamabad’s master plan. The concerned wing was directed to carry out further work on the procedures and parameters required for proposed changes to the plan.
Islamabad’s original master plan was prepared by Doxiadis Associates in 1960. The firm had recommended that the plan be revised every 20 years. However, a comprehensive revision has not been completed as the capital has expanded significantly over the decades.
The city’s population and built-up areas have increased, while housing schemes and informal settlements have also expanded. These changes have created additional planning challenges for the authorities.
The board also discussed tax and duty exemptions for imported goods required for the new convention center. In addition, it approved consultancy services for the revamp and rehabilitation of Faisal Mosque.
Several other development-related matters were also considered during the meeting. The latest decisions indicate that the CDA is looking at tourism, infrastructure, urban planning and the rehabilitation of major public facilities as part of its development agenda for Islamabad.
