A report by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Child Protection and Welfare Commission has recorded 625 cases of child sexual abuse across 13 districts of the province between 2022 and 2026. The report has been forwarded to the Ministry of Human Rights.
According to the findings, 408 boys and 217 girls were among the reported victims during the period covered by the assessment. The figures represent cases recorded across the 13 districts included in the commission’s report.
Abbottabad recorded the highest number of reported cases, with 163 children affected between 2022 and 2026. Swat followed with 81 cases, while 75 cases were reported in Charsadda and 68 in Mardan.
The report also documented cases in several other districts. Battagram recorded 36 cases, while Buner reported 32 cases. Peshawar recorded 33 cases during the period under review.
Kohat reported 19 cases, while Lower Chitral recorded 17 cases. The district-wise figures highlight the spread of reported child sexual abuse cases across different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The commission has shared the findings with the Ministry of Human Rights as part of efforts to highlight child protection concerns in the province. The report provides data on reported incidents rather than an estimate of all cases that may have occurred.
Child protection authorities face the challenge of ensuring that reported cases are properly investigated and that children receive appropriate protection and support. Effective reporting mechanisms, timely investigations and stronger safeguards are important in responding to cases involving children.
The findings also highlight the need for continued awareness among families, schools, communities and relevant institutions about child safety and reporting mechanisms.
The assessment covers reported cases from 2022 through 2026 in the 13 districts included in the commission’s review. The commission’s decision to forward the report to the federal Ministry of Human Rights places the reported figures before a wider government-level forum for consideration and further action.
