The Boards of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) in Bannu and Dera Ismail Khan have postponed matriculation examination papers scheduled from October 7 to October 10, 2026, citing communication disruptions and security concerns.
The postponement affects students appearing in matriculation examinations under both boards. BISE Bannu has postponed papers for its SSC Annual-II and Oriental Languages Examination 2026, while BISE Dera Ismail Khan has also delayed its matriculation papers because of suspended mobile phone services.
The decision comes amid ongoing security challenges and disruptions to communication services in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
BISE Bannu Postpones October 7–10 Papers
BISE Bannu announced the postponement of all examination papers scheduled between October 7 and October 10.
The decision applies to students appearing under the Bannu board in Bannu, Lakki Marwat and North Waziristan.
According to a notification issued on October 3, the board cited the prevailing security situation and the suspension of mobile phone and internet services within its jurisdiction as major reasons behind the decision.
The board said the communication shutdown could create difficulties in coordinating examination arrangements and delivering important information to students and examination staff.
Communication Disruptions Affect Exam Arrangements
BISE Bannu explained that the suspension of communication services could affect the delivery of roll numbers, duty letters and other examination-related information.
The disruption could also create problems in communicating with teachers, supervisory staff and other personnel involved in conducting the examinations.
Another concern raised by the board was the transportation and delivery of examination stationery to different examination centres.
According to the notification, these circumstances could make it difficult to conduct the examinations in a smooth and transparent manner.
The board therefore decided to postpone the affected papers until conditions become more suitable for conducting the examinations.
Remaining Bannu Papers to Follow Existing Schedule
While the October 7–10 papers have been postponed, BISE Bannu has clarified that all remaining examination papers will continue according to the existing date sheet.
Students who have papers scheduled after the affected dates should therefore continue preparing according to the previously announced examination schedule unless the board issues another notification.
The new dates for the postponed papers will be announced separately by BISE Bannu.
The board has also directed educational institutions, examination staff and other relevant stakeholders to communicate the postponement to candidates promptly.
DI Khan Board Also Delays Matric Exams
BISE Dera Ismail Khan has taken a similar decision regarding matriculation examinations scheduled from October 7 to October 10.
The board also cited the suspension of mobile phone services as a reason for postponing the examinations.
The disruption has affected communication arrangements necessary for the smooth conduct of examinations, prompting the board to delay the affected papers.
According to Controller Examinations Qaiser Anwar, examinations under BISE Dera Ismail Khan will now begin on October 12.
Students appearing under the DI Khan board should therefore take note of the revised schedule and prepare for the examinations according to the new date.
Security Situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
The postponements come at a time when several areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa are facing security challenges.
Recent militant incidents and intelligence-based operations have been reported in and around Bannu, adding to concerns about the movement of students, teachers and examination staff.
In such circumstances, education authorities have to consider both examination arrangements and the safety of students and staff.
The communication shutdowns have added another challenge by making it more difficult for examination boards to coordinate with educational institutions and examination centres.
Students Advised to Follow Board Updates
Students affected by the postponement should rely on official notifications from their respective examination boards for information about revised examination dates.
Candidates should also remain in contact with their schools and colleges so they can receive updates about the new schedule.
For BISE Bannu students, the postponed papers will be rescheduled and announced separately, while the remaining papers will continue under the existing date sheet.
For BISE Dera Ismail Khan candidates, the examinations are now scheduled to begin from October 12, according to the controller examinations.
Students are advised not to assume that other examination dates have changed unless an official notification is issued by the relevant board.
New Dates Expected to Be Announced
The postponement of the October 7–10 papers is intended to address the difficulties created by communication disruptions and security conditions.
BISE Bannu is expected to announce new dates for its postponed papers separately. Meanwhile, BISE Dera Ismail Khan has already indicated that its examinations will begin from October 12.
The developments highlight how security conditions and communication disruptions can affect academic schedules in affected districts.
Students and examination staff are advised to monitor official board announcements closely as authorities work to ensure that the postponed examinations can be conducted under suitable conditions.
