Ahmed Baig Wins 10th JA Zaman Golf Title

Ahmed Baig from Royal Palm Golf Club secured victory in the 10th JA Zaman Memorial Open Golf Championship, a grandly hosted event by the Zaman Family at the par-72 Lahore Gymkhana Golf Course. The four-day championship, featuring 74 holes in the Professional category, showcased Baig’s outstanding skills, especially in the final three holes, where he triumphed amidst tough competition.

With a substantial prize pool of Rs 7.5 million and the allure of a Haval for a hole-in-one, the tournament drew a diverse field of 103 top golf professionals and participants in seven additional categories. The professional section’s final round on Sunday witnessed intense competition, with Ahmed Baig, Shabbir Iqbal, Minhaj Maqsood, and Muhammed Nazir demonstrating exceptional determination.

The pivotal moment occurred at the 16th hole, where Baig’s remarkable second shot secured him an eagle, propelling him ahead. He maintained his lead with subsequent birdies on the 17th and 18th holes, concluding the championship with an impressive eight under par, totaling 280 over four rounds.

Muhammed Shabbir Iqbal claimed the runner-up position with a score of 282, followed by Minhaj Maqsood in third with 283. The event also highlighted standout performances by Muhammed Nazir and Muhammed Alam in the professional category, while Shahzaib Khan led the amateurs, with Tipu Raja and Hussain Hamid securing the top three positions.

The championship concluded with a grand prize distribution ceremony at the Lahore Gymkhana Golf Club, attended by dignitaries, the Zaman Family, participants, and their families, marking the successful culmination of the event and celebrating Ahmed Baig’s remarkable title defense.
