Xiaomi Launches Electric Car SU7 With Plans To Compete Porsche and Tesla

Chinese technology giant Xiaomi has officially introduced its highly-anticipated electric vehicle, the SU7, at an event held on Thursday. During the launch event in Beijing, China, Xiaomi’s founder and CEO, Lei Jun, who had previously teased the vehicle, presented it to the public.

Lei Jun articulated his company’s ambitious goal of positioning itself among the top 5 global automakers within the next 15 to 20 years.

Expressing the aspiration to create a dream car on par with renowned brands like Porsche and Tesla, Lei Jun did not disclose the vehicle’s pricing details.

In a series of posts on X, Lei Jun unveiled the three available colors for the car: Aqua Blue, Mineral Gray, and Verdant Green.

Additionally, Xiaomi shared that the SU7 boasts impressive performance metrics, accelerating from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.78 seconds, officially earning a spot in the “2s Supercar Club” with a single leap. The vehicle is anticipated to be available for purchase in the coming months.

Key features of the SU7 include:

  • Top Speed: 265 km/h
  • Acceleration from 0 to 200 km/h in 10.67 seconds
  • 800V HyperCharge technology
  • Up to 220 km range with just 5 minutes of charging
  • Up to 510 km range with 15 minutes of charging
  • 800 km CLTC recharge range

Furthermore, Lei Jun shared that renowned American automobile designer Christopher Edward Bangle has joined Xiaomi as a design consultant. Lei Jun emphasized that Bangle was impressed by the remarkable car Xiaomi had developed in such a short timeframe.
