Three Army officers including Lt. Gen dismissed: DG ISPR's exclusive press conference

On Monday, Maj-Gen Ahmad Sharif Chaudhry, Director General of the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), revealed details of actions taken against Army officials in the aftermath of the May 9 riots, saying that three officials, including a Lieutenant General, had been fired, while disciplinary proceedings against other officers, including three major generals and seven brigadiers, had been completed.

The May 9 incidents, according to the spokesperson, were “undoubtedly” part of a months-long conspiracy against Pakistan.

The military spokeswoman indicated that the purpose of today’s press conference was to offer “facts” about the events of May 9. Riots erupted following the arrest of the PTI head, with rioters targeting military facilities and martyr memorials.

During the press conference, Maj Gen Sharif also showed a video montage of testimonies from martyrs’ families.

“The incident of May 9 is extremely disappointing, condemnable, and a black chapter in our country’s history,” the spokesperson said, adding that what the country’s adversaries could not achieve in 76 years, some “miscreants and their facilitators” did.

He added that the incident was “unquestionably a conspiracy against Pakistan.” “The events of May 9 will not be forgotten, nor will those who planned and facilitated them be forgiven.”

“The investigation to date has proven that May 9 was planned for several months,” the major-general said, adding that “under this planning, first a conducive environment was created and people were instigated and provoked against the army.”

He went on to say that a “narrative based on lies and exaggeration was spread on social media inside and outside the country” and that officials had gathered evidence supporting it.

According to the DG ISPR, the events of May 9 caused a great deal of pain and indignation among the heirs of the dead and veterans of the military services. He insisted that the armed forces were burying martyrs every day as operations against terrorists continued.

“While the Pakistan Army makes these sacrifices, filthy propaganda was carried out on the basis of a false narrative for nefarious political objectives.”
