Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has directed officials to make upgraded schools fully operational by April 2, 2027.
He issued the instructions during a review meeting on the Sindh Secondary Education Improvement Project (SSEIP). The meeting was held at the Chief Minister’s House in Karachi.
The chief minister also ordered a province-wide enrollment campaign. The drive will target children who are currently out of school or have dropped out.
The SSEIP and SELECT programs are currently working on 1,133 schools across Sindh. Of these, 838 schools are included under SSEIP, while 295 fall under SELECT.
Officials informed the meeting about the progress of the school improvement programs. They expect 552 schools to be completed by December 2026.
A total of 801 schools are expected to be completed by March 2027. The overall programs have a completion deadline of December 2027.
Murad Shah directed the Education Department to prepare completed schools for students without delays. Schools completed by March must have essential facilities ready by April 2.
These facilities include furniture, teachers and other requirements needed for regular operations. The chief minister stressed that upgraded buildings should become functional as soon as possible.
The meeting also reviewed an enrollment campaign launched as a pilot project in Thatta. The nine-day campaign was conducted in five upgraded secondary schools.
Officials reported that 702 students were enrolled during the campaign. The enrolled students included 409 girls from Classes VI to X.
The campaign also helped 102 out-of-school or dropout children return to education. Community teams played an important role in identifying and contacting these children.
Teams visited 116 feeder schools as part of the campaign. They also visited 17 neighborhoods and 23 villages to reach families directly.
Door-to-door visits were conducted to encourage parents to send their children to school. The campaign particularly focused on children who had left education.
Murad Shah directed officials to expand the enrollment campaign throughout Sindh. He placed special emphasis on increasing the enrollment of girls.
The chief minister also instructed officials to target children who have dropped out of school. The wider campaign is expected to build on the results achieved in Thatta.
Murad Shah further ordered the Education Department to establish a transparent framework for managing upgraded schools. The framework will help determine how these schools are operated after completion.
The measures aim to improve access to secondary education across Sindh. They also seek to ensure that upgraded schools provide proper facilities and teaching staff.
The provincial government is focusing on bringing more children into classrooms. The enrollment drive is expected to support this goal across the province.
The latest directives underline the need to complete school projects and make them functional. The government will also continue efforts to reduce the number of out-of-school children in Sindh.
