Big Change in Store as Sindh Moves to New Cricket Selection System

The Sindh government has announced a new merit-based selection system for forming the provincial cricket team. The initiative is aimed at preparing the squad for the upcoming Pakistan Cup.

Sindh Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Bakhsh Mehar shared details in a video statement. He said the selection process will be carried out at the divisional level across Sindh.

The goal is to identify talented young cricketers from different regions. Officials said structured trials will help ensure fair opportunities for all players.

Under the new plan, young athletes will be required to submit a short video. Players must send a one-minute clip of their batting or bowling via WhatsApp.

They also need to include their name, division, and mobile number. After review, selected players will be called for formal trials in Sindh.

The minister said the initiative follows efforts to create better opportunities for local talent. He added that the Pakistan Cricket Board has been engaged to provide a proper platform for player development.

According to officials, the Pakistan Cup is expected to take place at the end of May or in early June. The Sindh government aims to complete team selection before the tournament begins.

The minister stressed that Sindh has a large pool of cricket talent. However, many young players do not get proper exposure at higher levels.

He said the new system will give these players a fair chance to showcase their skills. The process is designed to be transparent and merit-based.

To ensure wide participation, trial camps will be set up in all divisions of Sindh. This approach aims to include players from both urban and rural areas.

Officials believe this will strengthen the provincial team. It will also help improve competitiveness in national tournaments.

The minister emphasized that time is limited. He said the selection process must be completed quickly to prepare a strong team for the Pakistan Cup.
