Punjab to Provide 20,000 Green Tractors to Farmers

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced plans to distribute 20,000 Green Tractors to farmers during the upcoming fiscal year as part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to modernize the agriculture sector and improve farm productivity.

Under the Green Tractors initiative, eligible farmers will receive a subsidy of Rs750,000 on tractors with engine capacities ranging between 50 and 65 horsepower. The government believes the programme will help farmers adopt modern farming techniques, reduce operational expenses, and improve overall agricultural output.

Speaking about ongoing agricultural reforms, Maryam Nawaz highlighted Punjab’s first-ever interest-free financing scheme that offers loans of up to Rs30 million for the purchase of advanced agricultural machinery across 12 categories. The initiative is designed to make modern technology more accessible to farmers and accelerate agricultural mechanization throughout the province.

According to officials, nearly 200 high-tech combine harvesters have already been provided to farmers through interest-free financing. In addition, around 50 modern combine harvesters were deployed during the recent wheat harvesting season, helping farmers complete harvesting operations more efficiently and within a shorter time.

The chief minister also emphasized efforts to address environmental challenges linked to agriculture. She stated that 5,000 Super Seeders have already been distributed among rice growers to reduce the harmful practice of crop residue burning, which contributes significantly to air pollution.

The machinery is expected to support rice cultivation across approximately 1.4 million acres during the current season. In the next phase of the programme, the government plans to distribute another 5,000 Super Seeders to farmers across Punjab.

Maryam Nawaz said agricultural innovation remains a priority for her administration. She noted that modern equipment not only lowers production costs but also enhances efficiency and increases crop yields. She further stated that the use of Super Seeders has already helped reduce environmental pollution.
