The provincial government has specifically requested the deployment of troops for matches scheduled to be held in three key cities – Lahore, Rawalpindi, and Multan. In addition to this, the government has sought the presence of the Light Commando Battalion and SSG Commandos to reinforce security arrangements for the event. Furthermore, a request for a helicopter has been made to facilitate aerial surveillance during the PSL 9 matches.

The anticipated commencement date for PSL 9 is February 17, 2024, at the headquarters of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) in Lahore. The opening match will feature the two-time champions and defending titleholders, Lahore Qalandars, facing off against the winners of the 2016 and 2018 editions, Islamabad United.

The tournament, recognized as a marquee event in the cricketing calendar, will be hosted across four cities – Karachi, Lahore, Multan, and Rawalpindi. The culmination of the six-team competition is scheduled to take place at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi on March 18.

The decision to seek military and paramilitary deployment aligns with the overarching objective of ensuring the safety and security of players, officials, and spectators during the high-profile PSL 9 matches. The presence of international players in the tournament adds a layer of complexity and necessitates heightened security measures to mitigate potential risks.

The utilization of Light Commando Battalion and SSG Commandos signifies a comprehensive approach to security, considering the specialized training and expertise these units bring to the table. Additionally, the inclusion of aerial surveillance through a helicopter enhances the surveillance capabilities and responsiveness of the security apparatus.

As the cricketing community eagerly awaits the commencement of PSL 9, the proactive measures taken by the Punjab government underscore the paramount importance placed on security considerations. The collaboration with military and paramilitary forces is a strategic move to ensure a safe and successful tournament, reflecting the commitment to fostering a conducive environment for cricket in Pakistan.
