Punjab is considering a new registration framework for private schools. The proposal links school registration fees with monthly tuition charges.
Under the proposed system, private schools could receive registration for four years. The revised Registration Fees would vary according to the monthly fee charged by each school.
Schools charging Rs. 1,500 per month may have to pay Rs. 10,000 for registration. Those charging up to Rs. 2,500 could pay Rs. 20,000.
The proposed structure would also cover schools with higher monthly tuition fees. Schools charging up to Rs. 5,000 per month may pay Rs. 50,000.
Schools with a monthly fee of Rs. 10,000 could face Registration Fees of Rs. 100,000. The amount would increase further for schools charging higher tuition fees.
Schools charging Rs. 20,000 per month may have to pay Rs. 200,000. Those charging more than Rs. 20,000 could face a registration fee of Rs. 1 million.
The proposal would also change the registration validity period for private schools. Schools would receive registration for four years after paying the prescribed amount.
After four years, schools would need to renew their registration. They would also receive a new license as part of the renewal process.
Under the proposed rules, renewal would require payment of 50 percent of the applicable registration fee. The amount would depend on the school’s monthly tuition charges.
The proposed Registration Fees are part of wider changes being considered for private school regulation in Punjab. Authorities are also reviewing new rules for school registration.
A separate proposal has been placed before the Cabinet Committee for consideration. It seeks approval for revised rules and regulations governing private educational institutions.
The proposed changes are not yet final. The new registration process and fee structure would require approval from the competent authority.
If approved, the revised framework would introduce a different fee system for private schools. It would connect registration costs with the tuition fees charged by schools.
The government is also considering other reforms for private educational institutions. Earlier proposals included extending registration validity to four years and simplifying certain registration procedures.
For now, private schools will continue under the existing registration framework. The proposed changes will take effect only after formal approval.
