Punjab authorities have decided to link the post office delivery system with the Traffic Police’s Driving License Information Management System (DLIMS). The move aims to address delays in the delivery of driving license cards across the province.
Under the existing DLIMS system, citizens can only check whether their license card is being processed or printed. The planned integration will provide more detailed information about the card’s delivery.
Once the new system is operational, citizens will be able to track their driving license cards online. They will also be able to check the current location and delivery status of their cards.
The system will provide information about the complete handover and delivery process. This will include details about when a card is handed over by the traffic police to the post office.
Citizens will also be able to see whether their card is in transit or has reached a particular delivery stage. The system is expected to make the process more transparent and reduce uncertainty for applicants waiting for their cards.
At present, citizens may have limited information after their license cards are printed. This can make it difficult to determine where a card is located or when it is expected to arrive.
The proposed integration is intended to close this gap. By connecting the traffic police database with postal delivery information, authorities will have a clearer view of each card’s movement.
Traffic police officials are also expected to benefit from the new system. Officials currently face difficulties accessing detailed information about license card deliveries under the existing arrangement.
The Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) has been contacted to facilitate the required data integration. The board is expected to assist authorities in connecting the relevant systems and developing the necessary digital mechanism.
The planned system could also improve coordination between the traffic police and the post office. Both departments will have access to updated delivery information, allowing delays to be identified more easily.
Authorities expect the new arrangement to strengthen monitoring of driving license deliveries. It could also help officials identify cards that remain undelivered or face delays during the postal process.
The initiative is part of wider efforts to improve digital public services in Punjab. Providing citizens with real-time or updated delivery information can reduce the need for repeated visits or inquiries.
For drivers, the biggest expected benefit will be greater visibility over their license cards. Instead of simply seeing that a card has been printed, applicants will be able to follow its progress after it leaves the traffic police.
The system could also improve accountability in the delivery process. Authorities will be able to monitor when cards are handed over and track their movement through the postal network.
Officials said the ultimate goal is to ensure that driving license cards reach citizens within the prescribed timeframe. Better monitoring could help authorities identify problems and take action when deliveries are delayed.
The data integration will require coordination between the traffic police, post office and PITB. Once completed, the system is expected to provide citizens with a more convenient way to monitor their license cards.
The initiative could bring an important improvement to the driving license process in Punjab. If implemented successfully, applicants will have clearer information about their cards from printing to final delivery.
