The Government of Punjab has introduced a new deceased transfer service in Rawalpindi aimed at providing structured and timely assistance for the transportation of bodies from hospitals to the homes of bereaved families.
This initiative has been launched as a pilot project and is being managed by Rescue 1122. For better coordination and quick response, dedicated service booths have been set up at several major healthcare facilities in the city, including Holy Family Hospital, Benazir Bhutto Hospital, District Headquarters Hospital, and the Rawalpindi Institute of Cardiology.
According to officials from the District Emergency Office, the service has started with an initial deployment of seven specially designated vehicles. These vehicles are assigned to ensure the dignified and safe transportation of deceased individuals from medical institutions to their residences without unnecessary delays or difficulties for families.
On the first day of its operation, the service successfully facilitated the transfer of three deceased individuals from hospitals to their respective homes, marking the beginning of its implementation in the district.
Authorities have stated that this initiative is not limited to Rawalpindi alone. It is part of a broader plan being tested in three different districts across Punjab, with Rawalpindi selected as one of the early locations for the pilot phase. Based on its performance and public response, the program may be expanded to other regions of the province in the future.
The primary objective of the service is to support grieving families during extremely difficult times by ensuring a respectful, organized, and efficient system for transporting deceased persons from hospitals. Officials emphasized that the initiative is designed to reduce stress on families while improving emergency support services across public healthcare institutions.
