The Punjab government has announced a major increase in financial rewards for outstanding matriculation students, raising the cash prize for top position holders from Rs. 20,000 to Rs. 100,000. The announcement was made by Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat while unveiling the 2026 annual matriculation examination results for all educational boards across the province.
The enhanced reward is part of the provincial government’s broader efforts to recognize academic excellence and encourage students to achieve better results. In addition to the increased cash prize, the minister also confirmed that all matriculation position holders will receive free laptops, providing them with additional resources to support their future studies.
Speaking at the result announcement ceremony, Rana Sikandar Hayat said that all Punjab educational boards declared their matric results simultaneously for the first time as part of measures aimed at improving transparency and ensuring equal access to information for students across the province.
The education minister highlighted several digital reforms introduced during this year’s examination process. He said modern technology was used for the first time in preparing examination results, making the process more efficient, accurate, and transparent.
Students can now download officially verified digital result cards online without requiring additional authentication. Meanwhile, private school students can obtain their verified result cards directly through their respective institutions’ online portals, eliminating the need for separate verification procedures.
As part of Punjab’s ongoing education reforms, the minister also announced the launch of an AI-powered chatbot that will provide students with instant access to examination-related information. The chatbot is expected to assist students by answering queries regarding results, examinations, admissions, and other academic matters, reducing dependence on manual support systems.
Rana Sikandar Hayat said the Punjab government is rapidly moving toward the complete digitalization of educational boards. According to him, several additional reforms will be introduced from next year to further improve transparency and efficiency within the examination system.
Among the planned initiatives is the introduction of a screen-marking system, which will replace traditional paper-based marking methods with digital evaluation. The government also plans to make the centralized paper-checking process more transparent by implementing modern monitoring mechanisms.
Additionally, students will soon be able to review their examination papers through a QR code-based system, allowing greater transparency in the assessment process and providing students with easier access to their evaluated answer sheets.
The minister claimed that this year’s examination process witnessed a significant reduction in malpractice across Punjab. According to him, authorities received no complaints regarding the alleged sale of examination centres, an issue that had previously raised concerns among students and parents.
He further stated that the provincial government had successfully reduced organized cheating networks by 95 percent, describing it as one of the biggest achievements of this year’s examination reforms. The administration believes stricter monitoring, improved coordination, and the use of technology played a key role in ensuring fair examinations.
Rana Sikandar Hayat also highlighted positive developments in Punjab’s higher education sector, stating that enrollment in public universities has increased significantly in recent years. He said the government’s education policies are focused on improving both access to quality education and the credibility of the province’s examination system.
The announcement comes as thousands of students across Punjab receive their matriculation results and begin planning for higher secondary education.
