The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a fresh weather advisory, forecasting the fifth spell of the monsoon season to begin on Friday, with authorities warning of urban flooding, river overflows, and landslides in vulnerable areas.
According to the PDMA, the incoming weather system is expected to affect several districts across Punjab, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall over the coming days. Officials have cautioned that low-lying areas, rivers, canals, and hilly regions could face increased risks as the new monsoon spell intensifies.
The authority warned that urban flooding may occur in major cities if heavy rainfall continues, while rising water levels in rivers and canals could create dangerous conditions for nearby communities. In hilly areas, persistent rainfall may trigger landslides, disrupting transportation and posing risks to residents.
Rainfall has already started in different parts of Punjab, bringing cooler temperatures and pleasant weather after weeks of hot and humid conditions. Lahore witnessed light showers, while cloudy skies have also been reported in several other cities.
According to the weather advisory, cloudy conditions and rainfall are expected in Sargodha, Chiniot, Multan, Faisalabad, and surrounding districts as the fresh monsoon system moves across the province.
The PDMA has advised district administrations to remain on high alert and ensure emergency response teams are prepared to deal with any flood-related situations. Citizens have also been urged to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain, particularly in flood-prone and low-lying areas.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to experience severe impacts from ongoing monsoon rains, with authorities reporting multiple casualties and widespread damage.
According to official figures, at least nine people have lost their lives, while seven others have been injured in rain-related incidents across the province. The fatalities were caused by flash floods as well as the collapse of roofs and walls during heavy downpours.
The continuing rains have also caused significant damage to residential properties. Authorities confirmed that 103 houses have been affected, leaving many families in need of assistance as rescue and relief operations continue in the affected districts.
Emergency services remain active in the flood-hit areas, while local administrations are monitoring the weather situation closely to respond to any further emergencies.
The latest monsoon spell comes as Pakistan continues to face seasonal weather challenges, with authorities urging the public to remain vigilant and follow official advisories to minimize risks associated with heavy rainfall and flooding.
