Imran Khan, a former cricketer and politician, was arrested and sentenced to three years in prison by an Islamabad court for alleged corrupt practices. The sentence also included a ban from participating in politics. This development sparked protests among many Pakistanis.

The ongoing discussions in Islamabad revolve around the selection of the next interim Prime Minister as Pakistan’s National Assembly is on the verge of a resolution. Key members of the ruling PDM coalition, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and PPP leader Asif Zardari, are actively engaged in consultations to agree on a suitable candidate.

Eminent lawyer of the Supreme Court, Zulfiqar Ahmad Bhutta, has stated that former Prime Minister Imran Khan can no longer remain the chief of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) after being convicted in the Toshakhana case.

Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and former prime minister, was arrested at his residence in Zaman Park after arrest orders were issued in the Toshakhana case.

Pakistani police apprehended former Prime Minister Khan at his residence in Lahore on Saturday. This is the second time this year that the popular opposition leader has been taken into custody. Prior to his arrest, a court found him guilty in an asset concealment case and sentenced him to prison, which could result in his disqualification from politics.
