The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has sought the support of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) for the upcoming Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) elections, as both parties held a high-level meeting to discuss the country’s political situation and electoral strategy.
A PML-N delegation, led by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, met MQM-P Chairman Dr Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui in Islamabad on Tuesday. The meeting focused on the evolving political landscape and preparations for the upcoming AJK elections.
The PML-N delegation included Khawaja Saad Rafique, Senator Anusha Rehman, Khel Das Kohistani, and Touseef Shah. Representing MQM-P were MNA Aminul Haque, Farhan Chishti, Zahid Malik, and MQM-AJK President Shah Faisal.
During the meeting, the PML-N formally requested MQM-P’s support in the AJK elections. The request is part of the party’s efforts to strengthen its political position ahead of the polls.
MQM-P leaders said the matter would be placed before the party’s central committee, which will review the proposal before making a final decision. The party said its official response will be announced after internal consultations.
The discussions also covered the broader political situation in Pakistan, with both sides exchanging views on current national issues and the importance of political coordination.
According to participants, both parties agreed to maintain close political contact and strengthen mutual cooperation in the future. The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by political parties to build alliances and coordinate strategies ahead of the AJK elections.
The upcoming AJK elections are expected to attract significant political attention, with major parties actively seeking support from allies and regional stakeholders to improve their electoral prospects.
