me abhA new weather system is expected to bring rain to several parts of Punjab, while the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a flood alert for multiple regions, warning of possible flash floods and rising river levels until August 4.
According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), rain is expected over the next two to four hours in Attock, Fateh Jang, Pindi Gheb, and Choa Saidan Shah. The department said the changing weather pattern could bring thunderstorms and strong winds to these areas.
The PMD also reported that a rain-producing system is developing over the Potohar region. As a result, showers accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms are likely in Chakwal, Kallar Kahar, Dina, Gujrat, Mangla, and Jhelum. Isolated rainfall is also forecast for Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
Meanwhile, the NDMA’s National Emergency Operations Centre (NEOC) has warned of increased water flow in major rivers and a heightened risk of flash flooding in several parts of the country during the coming days.
According to the authority, high-level flooding has been reported at Head Gogi on River Lehri, while medium-level flooding continues at Nullah Palkhu near Wazirabad. Low-level flooding has also been recorded at several locations along the Indus River, including Kalabagh, Chashma, Guddu, and Sukkur.
The NDMA said high water flows are expected at Marala on the Chenab River, while low to medium-level flows are likely at Khanki and Qadirabad. Rising water levels have also been forecast in the Jhelum, Ravi, Kabul, and their tributaries.
The authority warned that flash floods may occur in the hill torrents of Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur, as well as parts of central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and northern Balochistan. Urban flooding and water accumulation are also possible in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Mardan, Nowshera, Hyderabad, Badin, and Thatta.
The NDMA has advised citizens to avoid unnecessary travel in flood-prone areas, monitor weather updates, check road conditions before travelling, and never attempt to cross floodwaters on foot or by vehicle.
