The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast widespread rain across several parts of Pakistan. The weather system is expected to remain active from August 17 to 21.
According to the forecast, upper and central areas may receive heavy rain. Strong winds and thunderstorms are also expected during this period.
The PMD said strong monsoon currents are entering the upper parts of the country. These currents are likely to increase rainfall activity over the coming days.
Several areas of Punjab are included in the weather forecast. These include Lahore, Rawalpindi, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Jhelum and Chakwal.
Islamabad, Murree, Galliyat, Attock and Kasur may also experience rainfall. Sheikhupura, Sargodha and Mianwali are among the other affected areas.
Rain Expected in Southern Punjab
Southern Punjab is also expected to receive rainfall. Faisalabad, Jhang, Sahiwal, Bahawalpur and Dera Ghazi Khan are included.
However, rain in these areas is mainly expected on August 20 and 21. Residents have been advised to remain aware of changing weather conditions.
Weather Forecast for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa is also likely to receive widespread rainfall. The forecast covers the province from August 17 to 21.
Peshawar, Mardan, Swabi and Nowshera may receive rain. Charsadda, Swat, Dir and Chitral are also expected to experience rainfall.
Abbottabad, Mansehra, Haripur, Kohistan and Malakand are also included. Some areas could receive isolated heavy rainfall.
Dera Ismail Khan, Bannu and Tank may receive rain later in the forecast period. Lakki Marwat and Waziristan are also expected to see rainfall.
Rain in Northern Areas
The PMD has forecast rain and thunderstorms in Azad Jammu and Kashmir. The weather activity is expected from the evening of August 16 through August 21.
Gilgit-Baltistan may also receive rainfall between August 18 and 21. Residents in mountainous areas should remain cautious.
Most parts of Sindh and Balochistan are expected to remain hot and humid. However, some areas may receive rain during the forecast period.
Musakhel, Barkhan, Zhob, Kalat and Khuzdar could receive rainfall. The activity in these areas is expected from August 17 to 20.
Urban Flooding and Landslide Risks
The PMD has warned about possible urban flooding in several cities. Heavy downpours could affect low-lying areas until August 20.
Islamabad, Rawalpindi and Lahore face potential urban flooding. Mardan, Swabi, Gujranwala, Gujrat and Sialkot are also at risk.
Landslides could occur in mountainous areas during the rainy period. Risk areas include Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and Murree.
Galliyat and Azad Kashmir may also experience landslides. Travelers and tourists have been advised to take extra precautions.
The PMD has urged authorities to remain alert and take preventive measures. Farmers have also been advised to plan agricultural activities according to weather conditions.
