Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has reportedly finalized Adrian Hamilton-Manns as its new chief executive officer. The appointment is still subject to pending clearances and the completion of other formalities.
Hamilton-Manns is a New Zealand-born aviation executive with experience in managing airline operations and commercial aviation businesses. He previously served as the chief executive officer of SalamAir, an Oman-based low-cost airline.
He led SalamAir from July 2024 until September 2026. Before joining the Omani carrier, he headed FlyArystan, a low-cost airline operating in Kazakhstan.
His professional background includes leadership roles in the aviation industry. His experience with low-cost carriers could be relevant as PIA works on its operational and commercial transformation.
The reported appointment comes during a major transition for the national airline. PIA is moving forward with changes following the completion of its privatization process.
An Arif Habib-led consortium took management control of the airline in June 2026. The development marked an important step in the carrier’s post-privatization transition.
The consortium is expected to oversee the airline’s next phase of operations and business development. The appointment of a new chief executive is part of the leadership changes surrounding this transition.
Before finalizing Hamilton-Manns, the consortium had reportedly considered Tewolde Gebremariam for the position. Gebremariam previously served as the chief executive officer of Ethiopian Airlines.
Reports indicated that the Arif Habib-led consortium had selected Gebremariam for the top position. However, his appointment did not materialize.
Hamilton-Manns has now reportedly emerged as the preferred candidate for the role. His appointment will depend on the completion of the remaining formalities and required clearances.
The new leadership will take charge as PIA continues its post-privatization transformation. The airline’s future direction will depend on its operational performance, commercial strategy, and implementation of planned changes.
The reported appointment also highlights the role of experienced aviation executives in managing major airline transitions. However, further details about Hamilton-Manns’ formal appointment and joining date have not been provided in the available information.
