Petrol prices in Pakistan have increased by Rs. 145.13 per litre since the beginning of 2026. High-speed diesel prices have also risen by Rs. 139.16 per litre during the same period.
At the start of the year, petrol was available at Rs. 253.17 per litre. Diesel was priced at Rs. 257.08 per litre at that time.
By October 10, petrol prices had reached Rs. 398.30 per litre. Meanwhile, high-speed diesel was selling at Rs. 396.24 per litre.
Both fuels recorded even higher prices earlier in the year. On April 3, petrol reached Rs. 458.41 per litre, while diesel climbed to Rs. 520.35 per litre.
These figures show significant changes in fuel prices throughout 2026. The repeated adjustments have affected the cost of petrol and diesel across the country.
Petrol Prices Fluctuate Under Daily Pricing System
Fuel prices have changed frequently since the government introduced a daily price determination system on July 21, 2026. Under this arrangement, prices are adjusted according to international market rates.
Between July 21 and October 10, petrol prices increased 35 times and decreased 22 times. During the same period, diesel prices rose 34 times and fell 23 times.
The figures highlight the frequency of fuel price adjustments under the current mechanism. International market movements now play a role in the daily determination of domestic fuel prices.
Changes in petrol and diesel prices can also influence transportation and other business costs. Fuel rates are an important factor for households, businesses, and industries that depend on road transport.
Government Collects Over Rs. 1.3 Trillion in Petroleum Levy
The government has also reported substantial revenue from the petroleum levy. Collections reached approximately Rs. 1.342 trillion between July 2025 and April 2026.
This was higher than the roughly Rs. 1.205 trillion collected between July 2025 and March 2026. The figures indicate an increase in cumulative petroleum levy revenue during the reported period.
The petroleum levy is a government charge applied to petroleum products. Revenue from this levy contributes to the government’s overall collection targets.
Petroleum Levy Target Set at Rs. 1.676 Trillion
For fiscal year 2026–27, the government has set a petroleum levy collection target of approximately Rs. 1.676 trillion.
The target comes as fuel prices continue to experience frequent adjustments. The government is pursuing its revenue objectives while domestic fuel rates remain linked to international market movements.
As of October 10, petrol was priced at Rs. 398.30 per litre, compared with Rs. 253.17 at the start of the year. Diesel stood at Rs. 396.24 per litre, following several increases and decreases during 2026.
