The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has rejected a proposal to reduce Pakistani players’ salaries in the Pakistan Super League (PSL). The decision followed a virtual meeting between board officials and franchise owners.
During the meeting, one franchise owner raised concerns about high player salaries. The owner suggested reviewing the existing payment structure to address these concerns. However, the PCB did not approve the proposal.
The meeting also covered outstanding payments, the upcoming player auction, retention deadlines, and tournament scheduling. Officials discussed plans for PSL Season 12 and the development of young cricket talent.
PCB Sets Deadline for Outstanding Payments
The PCB directed all stakeholders with unpaid dues to clear their outstanding payments by October 31. The instruction was issued during the meeting with franchise representatives.
An official representing one company with outstanding payments assured the board that the company would meet its financial obligations. The official also offered to provide a bank guarantee against personal land to secure the payment.
A representative of another franchise facing payment issues said they were unaware of the matter. They added that the company’s owner would be better placed to provide further details.
The payment deadline highlights the board’s focus on resolving outstanding financial obligations before the upcoming season. The meeting provided an opportunity for franchise representatives to discuss their financial positions with officials.
PSL 12 Auction and Player Retention Dates Discussed
The auction for PSL Season 12 is expected to take place on January 23. During the meeting, one franchise owner proposed holding the auction in China.
The PCB has also set January 13 as the deadline for player retentions. However, another franchise owner suggested moving the retention process to December.
A representative of another team said they would share their position after consulting their cricket operations team. The board is expected to consider the relevant proposals during further discussions.
PSL 12 is scheduled to begin on March 18, with the final planned for May 2. Lahore’s Gaddafi Stadium is set to host the final match.
However, the tournament schedule must account for other major sporting events. The South Asian Games are scheduled in Islamabad, Lahore, and Peshawar from April 4 to 11.
No PSL matches will take place in these three cities during the South Asian Games period. The tournament schedule will be finalized at the next cricket committee meeting.
PCB Plans to Develop Young Cricket Talent
The PCB also briefed franchise representatives about promising young players emerging from school cricket. The board expressed interest in developing these players into future stars.
Franchises were encouraged to assess young players, identify promising prospects, and support their development. The aim is to help talented youngsters progress through team-based development opportunities.
Franchise owners responded positively to the proposal. The initiative reflects the board’s interest in strengthening the future talent pool available to Pakistan’s domestic and professional cricket systems.
