Pakistan’s Tribal District Welcomes Its First Christian Woman SHO

In Kurram, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Samreen Amir, aged 35, makes history as the first Christian woman appointed as a Station House Officer (SHO). She will serve as SHO at the Parachinar Police Station, showcasing diversity and women’s empowerment within the police force.

Before her promotion, Samreen demonstrated her capabilities through various raids and active participation in police operations in the tribal district. Her appointment is expected to enhance the sense of security for women visiting police stations to report complaints, as stated by a senior police officer.

Muhammad Imran, the District Police Officer in Kurram, believes this appointment will help address issues such as inheritance disputes, domestic violence, and other challenges faced by women in the district.

The Inspector General of Police for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Akhtar Hayat Khan, emphasized that appointing a female SHO reflects the department’s commitment to gender equality and women’s empowerment, mentioning the presence of a female deputy muharrir at a police station as well.
