Pakistan strongly condemns Denmark’s desecration of the Holy Quran.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan on Saturday strongly condemned the act of desecration of the Holy Quran in Denmark, said a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It strongly condemned the “senseless and deeply offensive act” that was carried out by the same Islamophobe who committed a similar act in Sweden a few days ago.

“This repetition of the vile act leaves little doubt in the minds of Muslims around the world that freedom of expression is being blatantly abused to spread religious hatred and incitement to violence,” said the statement.

The spokesperson called into question the legal framework behind which Islamophobes hide and spread hatred with impunity.

It stated that at a time when there is an increasing need for inter-faith harmony and mutual respect for peaceful coexistence, the international community cannot turn a blind eye to these hate mongers.

It also reaffirmed Pakistan’s position that exercising one’s right to free speech carries obligations, adding that it is the responsibility of both national and international governments to stop such racist and Islamophobic acts.

The official further stated that the Danish authorities are being informed of Pakistan’s worries.

In order to stop such cruel and Islamophobic acts, “we implore them to be cognizant of the sentiments of the people of Pakistan and Muslims around the world,” the statement read.

A copy of the holy book was torched last week by an anti-immigrant politician from Sweden’s far-right fringe in close proximity to the Turkish Embassy.

This week, a similar incident occurred in the Netherlands when a far-right lawmaker tore out pages from a copy of the Holy Quran and set it on fire.
