Pakistan has reported its ninth polio case of 2026 from Khyber district in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The latest case has raised concerns about the continued spread of the preventable disease.
According to the National Emergency Operations Centre (EOC), nine polio cases have been confirmed across Pakistan so far this year. The latest development highlights the importance of vaccination and continued efforts to eliminate the disease.
Of the nine reported cases, seven have emerged from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The remaining two cases were reported from Sindh.
The National EOC is continuing vaccination activities across the country. An anti-polio campaign is currently underway in 97 selected districts. Khyber district is also included in the ongoing campaign.
During this nationwide drive, health workers are administering polio drops to more than 24 million children. The campaign targets children under five years of age.
The vaccination drive is being conducted simultaneously in Pakistan and Afghanistan. Both countries continue to face challenges in eliminating polio transmission.
The latest ninth polio case highlights the need for stronger vaccination coverage. Health authorities are encouraging parents to cooperate with vaccination teams. They have stressed that every eligible child must receive polio drops.
Polio Remains a Serious Health Concern
The National EOC has reminded citizens that polio is an incurable disease. However, vaccination can prevent children from contracting the infection.
The disease mainly affects young children and can cause permanent paralysis. Therefore, timely vaccination remains essential for protecting children against its harmful effects.
Health authorities have urged parents to ensure their children receive polio drops during the ongoing campaign. They have also advised families to complete their children’s routine immunisation schedules.
Routine vaccination plays an important role in building immunity against preventable diseases. Missing vaccination doses can leave children vulnerable to infections.
The National EOC has also appealed to different segments of society for support. It wants communities, parents and other stakeholders to participate actively in polio eradication efforts.
The authorities believe public cooperation is necessary to achieve complete polio elimination. Parents are encouraged to welcome vaccination teams and ensure their children receive the required doses.
The reporting of the ninth polio case of 2026 shows that vaccination efforts must continue without interruption. Health officials are relying on nationwide participation to protect children and prevent further transmission.
