Authorities in Punjab and Karachi have finalized comprehensive security arrangements for 9th Muharram processions and religious gatherings, deploying thousands of security personnel to maintain law and order.
Punjab Police said over 152,000 officers and personnel are on Muharram security duty across the province, with more than 70,000 specifically assigned for 9th Muharram.
A total of 1,697 mourning processions and 3,869 religious gatherings are being held across Punjab, including 208 Category-A processions and 337 Category-A gatherings. In Lahore, 81 processions and 386 gatherings are scheduled, with 26 processions and 46 gatherings designated as high-security events.
Police authorities have directed field officers to remain on high alert and strictly enforce security measures. Coordination between law enforcement, district administrations, and community representatives has been strengthened to ensure peaceful observances. Religious leaders have also been urged to promote unity, tolerance, and harmony.
Senior police officials are monitoring security and traffic operations, while surveillance cameras, walk-through gates, rooftop deployments, and plainclothes personnel have been positioned along procession routes.
Lahore Processions
The main procession in Lahore will begin from Nisar Haveli and conclude at Karbala Gamay Shah via its traditional route. Another major procession will start from Pando Street, pass through Khaima-e-Sadat, and return to its starting point. A third procession will be taken out from Qasr-e-Batool in Shadman, while several Zuljinah processions will also be held in different parts of the city.
Karachi Procession
In Karachi, the central 9th Muharram procession will commence from Nishtar Park after a religious gathering and end at Hussainia Iranian Imambargah in Kharadar.
More than 5,000 police personnel, supported by Rangers, have been deployed to secure the procession. Authorities have sealed nearby roads, intensified surveillance, and arranged alternative traffic routes to facilitate commuters during the event.
