A total of 66,815 Pakistanis travelled abroad for employment during July and August 2026, according to official data, highlighting the continued demand for job opportunities in international labour markets.
The figures from the Bureau of Immigration show that thousands of Pakistani workers left the country during the two-month period in search of employment opportunities overseas.
However, the number of workers travelling abroad for jobs declined significantly in August compared with July.
More Than 27,000 Pakistanis Travelled in August
According to Bureau of Immigration data, 27,656 Pakistanis went abroad for employment in August 2026.
The figure was lower than the 39,159 workers who travelled overseas for jobs in July.
This represents a month-on-month decline of 11,503 workers travelling abroad for employment.
Despite the decline, the combined figure for the two months remained above 66,000, showing that international employment continues to be an important option for Pakistani workers seeking better income and career opportunities.
The Bureau of Immigration said Pakistani workers were being provided access to international labour markets, enabling them to pursue employment opportunities in other countries.
Overseas Employment Remains Important for Workers
Employment abroad has traditionally been an important source of income for many Pakistani households.
Workers who secure jobs in international markets can earn foreign currency and support their families through remittances. Overseas employment can also provide workers with opportunities to develop professional skills and gain experience in different labour markets.
The July-August figures indicate that demand for overseas employment remains substantial, even though the monthly number of workers travelling abroad fluctuated during the period.
The decline recorded in August could reflect changes in recruitment activity, travel schedules or the availability of overseas employment opportunities.
Rs381 Million in Interest-Free Loans Disbursed
Alongside overseas employment, government-backed financing programmes are being used to support people seeking economic opportunities within Pakistan.
According to the report, the Pakistan Poverty Alleviation Fund disbursed 5,169 interest-free loans in August, with a combined value of Rs381 million.
The financing was provided to support small businesses, self-employment and income-generating activities.
Interest-free loans can help individuals establish or expand small businesses without taking on conventional interest-based borrowing. Such financing can also provide an alternative pathway for people seeking to generate income locally.
Rs127 Billion Disbursed Since 2019
The interest-free financing programme has provided a much larger amount of support over the longer term.
According to the available data, the total value of interest-free loans disbursed since 2019 has reached Rs127 billion.
The programme is aimed at increasing access to finance for people who may otherwise face difficulties obtaining funding for small businesses or self-employment.
By supporting income-generating activities, such programmes seek to help beneficiaries create sustainable sources of livelihood and improve household financial conditions.
Focus on Domestic Economic Opportunities
The government is also expanding access to financing for housing and agriculture as part of wider efforts to increase economic opportunities.
Housing finance can help eligible individuals address residential needs, while agricultural financing can support farmers and people involved in agriculture-related activities.
These initiatives are intended to improve access to productive financing and help more people participate in economic activity.
Overseas Jobs and Local Financing
The latest figures highlight two different routes through which Pakistanis are seeking better economic prospects.
For some workers, employment abroad provides an opportunity to earn higher incomes and send remittances back home. For others, interest-free financing can provide capital to establish a small business or pursue self-employment within Pakistan.
The government-backed programmes are intended to expand these opportunities by connecting workers with international labour markets while also supporting domestic income-generating activities.
With 66,815 Pakistanis travelling abroad for employment in July and August, overseas jobs remain an important part of the country’s labour landscape.
At the same time, the disbursement of Rs381 million in interest-free loans to 5,169 beneficiaries in August shows continued efforts to promote self-employment and small businesses at home.
