Senior journalist and former caretaker Punjab chief minister Najam Sethi has come under criticism after a clip from a prime-time television discussion went viral, with social media users questioning the language used during the broadcast.
In the clip, Sethi was discussing Iran’s alleged warnings to Gulf countries in the event of a possible US military attack. While explaining the reported situation, he claimed Iran had shared details with Gulf states, warning that if the United States launched an attack, Tehran would target specific locations in the region.
During the discussion, Sethi said the reported warning prompted Gulf countries to approach US President Donald Trump. He claimed regional governments were concerned about the potential impact of a military conflict on their interests, infrastructure, and overall stability.
He further discussed the reported reactions of Gulf states, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia, while referring to alleged diplomatic contacts with the United States. Sethi also cited unnamed sources while commenting on the evolving regional situation.
Towards the end of the conversation, Sethi used inappropriate language before immediately apologising on air. He remarked, “Sorry, yeah, this Punjabi, what do I do?” before continuing the discussion.
