The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has issued a clarification after a social media post by Pakistani actress Naeema Butt sparked confusion regarding an alleged online death certificate request portal.
The controversy began when Naeema Butt shared a screenshot on social media showing what appeared to be an online death certificate application page. The image featured a button labeled “Myself,” which quickly attracted attention from social media users.
Reacting to the wording on the page, the actress made a humorous remark, writing, “That’s for people who are dead from inside and walking alive.” Her comment gained significant engagement online, with many users sharing the screenshot and discussing the unusual option displayed on the page.
Following the viral circulation of the image, NADRA released an official statement distancing itself from the portal shown in the screenshot. The authority clarified that the data entry page was not linked to any of its official services, systems or digital platforms.
According to NADRA, the screenshot being shared online does not belong to any authorised NADRA service. The authority stressed that attempts to associate unverified or fabricated content with NADRA are misleading and can create unnecessary confusion among the public.
NADRA further advised citizens to exercise caution before sharing information related to government institutions on social media. The authority urged the public to verify all claims through official channels before publishing, reposting or circulating such content online.
Officials emphasized that misinformation regarding public institutions can spread rapidly and may damage public trust. For this reason, NADRA encouraged users to rely only on information available through its verified platforms and official communication channels.
The authority also warned that the spread of false or misleading information could result in legal or regulatory action under applicable laws. It reiterated its commitment to ensuring accurate public information and protecting the integrity of its services.
The clarification comes as social media continues to play a major role in shaping public discussions, often leading to viral reactions before the authenticity of shared content can be verified. NADRA has advised users to confirm the source of online material before linking it to government institutions.
