Militants Kill 15 Police Officers in Bannu Suicide Attack

At least 15 police officers were killed and three others injured in an overnight militant assault on a police post in Bannu district of northwestern Pakistan, officials said on Sunday.

According to police, the attackers first struck the Fateh Khel police post in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province late Saturday by ramming an explosives-laden vehicle into the facility. The powerful blast destroyed the entire post.

Following the explosion, militants carried out a coordinated gun attack on the damaged site, further escalating the assault.

Authorities confirmed that 15 officers lost their lives in the attack, while three others were rescued alive from the rubble and shifted to hospital for medical treatment.

Regional police officer Sajjad Khan stated that the explosion completely leveled the police installation, causing severe destruction in the area. In response, additional police forces were immediately deployed to secure the region.

Security personnel cordoned off the site soon after the incident and initiated search and strike operations in surrounding areas to locate and apprehend those responsible for the attack.

The incident has heightened security concerns in the region, with authorities continuing efforts to track down the militants involved in the coordinated assault.
