A sessions court in Gujrat has sentenced a man to life imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs500,000 for raping his 12-year-old daughter. The verdict was announced by Additional Sessions Judge Shahbaz Iqbal Tarrar.
The convict was identified as Saqib Amir Butt. The court ordered that he would face an additional six months in prison if he fails to pay the imposed fine.
According to police, a case was registered against the accused in 2024 at Lari Adda Police Station following a complaint filed by his wife, Sidra Arshad. The case involved allegations that the accused had sexually abused his minor daughter.
Police said the alleged abuse continued for around six months before the case was registered. Following the registration of the case, the accused was arrested and remained in custody during the legal proceedings.
Police said the convict had been in custody at Gujrat Jail for approximately 24 months. The case was subsequently heard by the sessions court, which issued its verdict after completion of the proceedings.
The court’s decision includes both imprisonment and a financial penalty. Under the order, failure to pay the Rs500,000 fine will result in an additional six months of imprisonment.
Cases involving sexual abuse of children are dealt with under Pakistan’s criminal laws, with courts considering evidence presented during legal proceedings before issuing judgments. The verdict in this case concludes the trial at the sessions court level, subject to any legal remedies available under the law.
