The Punjab government has decided to strengthen the enforcement of Lane Discipline Rules across the province. Traffic authorities aim to improve road safety, reduce congestion, and encourage responsible driving. The new campaign will combine strict enforcement with public awareness efforts.
Punjab Traffic Police has directed all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to increase monitoring on major roads. Officers have been instructed to take firm action against motorists who violate Lane Discipline Rules. The campaign will cover both urban and rural areas.
Punjab DIG Traffic Muhammad Waqas Nazir has ordered patrolling officers to remain more active during daily traffic operations. They will focus on drivers who use the wrong lane, change lanes repeatedly without reason, or overtake without using indicators. These violations are considered major causes of traffic accidents.
According to official data, traffic authorities have already taken action against more than 627,000 lane discipline violations across Punjab this year. More than 300,000 of these cases were recorded in Lahore alone. Officials say these figures highlight the need for stronger enforcement.
Traffic officials believe following Lane Discipline Rules can improve the flow of vehicles on busy roads. Proper lane use also reduces sudden braking and dangerous driving behavior. This creates a safer environment for drivers, passengers, and pedestrians.
Motorists have been advised to use indicators before changing lanes or overtaking another vehicle. Indicators help other road users understand a driver’s intentions and reduce the chances of collisions. Officials say this simple habit can prevent many avoidable accidents.
Special instructions have also been issued for motorcyclists. Riders have been advised to stay in the left-most lane whenever possible. They should also follow speed limits and obey all traffic regulations. Authorities believe these measures will improve safety for motorcycle riders and other commuters.
Along with enforcement, the Punjab Traffic Police will launch a wider public awareness campaign. The campaign will educate drivers about the importance of safe driving habits and proper lane usage. Officials hope increased awareness will encourage voluntary compliance with traffic laws.
The Punjab Traffic Police says road safety depends on cooperation between drivers and law enforcement agencies. Motorists are encouraged to respect traffic signs, avoid careless driving, and follow lane markings at all times.
