The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has imposed a ban on the transfers and postings of teachers across the province until December 31, 2026.
The restriction has been formally introduced through a notification issued by the Elementary and Secondary Education Department, which states that routine teacher transfers and postings will remain suspended until the end of the year.
The decision will affect teachers serving in government schools across the province, although the notification provides exemptions for certain categories of appointments and postings.
Teacher transfers suspended until December 31
Under the new notification, teachers will not generally be transferred or posted to other schools or positions until the end of 2026.
The ban is intended to remain in force from the time of its implementation until December 31, 2026.
The restriction means that routine requests for teacher transfers and postings will remain suspended during the specified period.
District education authorities and other relevant officials will be required to follow the department’s instructions while managing teacher placements during the ban.
Newly promoted teachers exempted
The notification includes an exemption for teachers who are promoted during the period covered by the restriction.
Promoted teachers will therefore be able to receive the postings necessary to assume their new responsibilities.
This exemption ensures that the transfer ban does not prevent departments from implementing promotions and assigning teachers to positions associated with their upgraded roles.
Newly recruited teachers also exempt
Teachers who are newly recruited will also remain outside the scope of the transfer and posting restriction.
Their initial postings can therefore be made despite the general ban.
The exemption is intended to allow the education department to deploy newly appointed teachers to schools where their services are required.
This provision will allow the department to continue bringing new teaching staff into the school system without waiting for the transfer restrictions to expire.
New schools can receive necessary staff
Another important exemption concerns newly established schools.
According to the notification, necessary postings required to activate newly established schools will not be affected by the ban.
This means the education department can assign teachers to new schools where staffing is required for the institutions to begin functioning.
The exemption is particularly relevant to schools that have recently been established but require teaching staff before they can provide regular educational services.
Department issues formal notification
The Elementary and Secondary Education Department has formally communicated the restriction through its notification.
The department’s decision provides a clear timeframe for the ban, with the restriction remaining in place through the final day of 2026.
Teachers and education officials will therefore have to consider the notification when seeking or processing routine transfer and posting requests.
At the same time, the exemptions provide the department with flexibility to make essential appointments where necessary.
Impact on government schools
Teacher transfers can affect the distribution of teaching staff between schools, particularly in areas where some institutions have more vacancies or shortages than others.
