Police say they have recovered more than one kilogram of drugs, including crystal methamphetamine, commonly known as ice, and cocaine, during a raid on a bungalow in Karachi linked to Azad Jakhrani, the brother of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) MNA Aijaz Jakhrani.
According to police, the operation was carried out after investigators received information from a suspect who had allegedly been arrested with cocaine and ice. The suspect reportedly identified Azad Jakhrani as the owner of the drugs and claimed that additional supplies were stored at his bungalow.
Police said Azad was not present at the property when officers conducted the raid and could not be arrested. A case has reportedly been registered against him under the relevant narcotics laws. However, the allegations against him have not been proven in court.
Police Seek Action in Drug Case
The recovery followed the information provided by the arrested suspect, according to the police account. Investigators reportedly acted on the claim that more drugs were stored at the bungalow and conducted a search of the property.
The case is now subject to the legal process. The allegations against Azad Jakhrani remain unproven, and any determination of responsibility will depend on the evidence examined by the relevant authorities and courts.
The incident has also drawn attention because the property is linked to the family of a sitting PPP lawmaker.
Aijaz Jakhrani Questions Police Raid
Responding to the operation, Aijaz Jakhrani said he had already disassociated himself from his brother. However, he stressed that the bungalow was their family home and accused the police of violating the privacy of the household during the raid.
The PPP MNA said he had contacted Sindh Home Minister and the provincial inspector general of police over the incident. He called for an investigation into the operation and demanded action against any officials found responsible for misconduct.
His response focused on the manner in which the raid was conducted and the treatment of the family’s property. His concerns add another dimension to the case, as authorities face calls to investigate both the reported drug recovery and the allegations surrounding the police operation.
Faryal Talpur Seeks Report From Police Chief
Meanwhile, Faryal Talpur, chairperson of the Sindh Assembly’s Standing Committee on Home Affairs, took notice of the raid at Jakhrani House.
She sought a report from the provincial police chief regarding the operation. The move could bring further scrutiny to the circumstances surrounding the raid and the concerns raised by Aijaz Jakhrani.
The case involves allegations of drug possession, a police investigation and questions about the conduct of law enforcement officials. Further details may emerge as the investigation proceeds and authorities respond to the requests for an inquiry.
For now, police have reported the recovery of ice and cocaine and the registration of a case against Azad Jakhrani. The allegations remain subject to legal proceedings, while the separate concerns about privacy and police conduct have prompted demands for an investigation.
