The Islamabad Traffic Police has announced major road closures and traffic diversions for October 24 and 25, 2026. Commuters travelling through the federal capital have been advised to plan their journeys carefully, as several important routes will remain closed during the two-day period.
According to the traffic advisory, the road from Rawal Dam Chowk to Kashmir Chowk and the route from Serena Hotel to Kashmir Chowk will remain completely closed. The closures are expected to affect traffic movement in surrounding areas and may cause delays for people travelling between Islamabad and Rawalpindi.
The traffic police has advised citizens to use alternative routes and allow an additional 20 to 25 minutes for their journeys. Traffic officers will be deployed at key locations to guide motorists and help manage congestion.
Which Roads Will Remain Closed?
The two main routes affected by the advisory are the road connecting Rawal Dam Chowk with Kashmir Chowk and the route from Serena Hotel to Kashmir Chowk.
These roads are important for commuters travelling between different parts of Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Their closure may require motorists to take longer routes, particularly during busy hours.
People travelling towards government offices, Serena Hotel, G-5, the Secretariat area and nearby locations should check their routes before leaving. Drivers are also advised to follow instructions from traffic officers and avoid entering closed roads.
Alternative Routes from G-5, Secretariat and Serena Hotel
Commuters travelling from G-5, the Secretariat area and Serena Hotel towards Rawalpindi have been advised to use alternative routes.
One option is to travel via Srinagar Highway and Ninth Avenue. Another suggested route is Srinagar Highway and Mehrabad Peshawar Road.
Motorists may also return through the Lake View U-turn and use Murree Road or Club Road, depending on their destination and traffic conditions.
Drivers should select the route that best suits their destination and remain prepared for possible congestion on roads carrying diverted traffic.
Routes for Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road and Lehtrar Road
People travelling from Rawal Dam Chowk, Park Road and Lehtrar Road should use Srinagar Highway, Seventh Avenue, Shakarparian Road, Tulip Hotel and Rawal Dam Road.
These alternative routes are intended to help commuters avoid the affected roads and continue their journeys through other connecting roads.
Motorists should follow traffic signs and directions from police personnel, especially at junctions where vehicles may be redirected.
Alternative Routes for Murree and Bhara Kahu
Travellers heading towards Murree and Bhara Kahu have also been advised to use alternative routes.
According to the advisory, motorists can travel through Faizabad, Faisal Avenue, Zero Point, the Srinagar Highway underpass, Jinnah Square and Koriyanwala Chowk to reach Bhara Kahu and Murree.
People planning trips towards these areas should leave earlier than usual and allow extra time for their journeys. Traffic conditions may change depending on the volume of vehicles using the alternative routes.
Routes from Rawalpindi to Islamabad
Commuters travelling from Rawalpindi to Islamabad can use Ninth Avenue, Faqir Aipee Road and Srinagar Highway.
Meanwhile, people travelling from Park Road and Lehtrar Road towards Islamabad have been advised to use Tulip Hotel Road, Garden Avenue, Shakarparian Road and Seventh Avenue.
Drivers should check the latest traffic situation before setting out, as diversions may increase pressure on surrounding roads.
Traffic Police Issues Important Instructions
The Islamabad Traffic Police has warned that the road closures could disrupt traffic flow on nearby routes. Officers will remain deployed to assist motorists, manage diversions and guide commuters through affected areas.
Citizens have been advised to allow an additional 20 to 25 minutes for travel and follow instructions issued by traffic personnel.
