Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar met Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
The meeting focused on Pakistan-Iran bilateral relations as well as regional and international developments. According to Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry, the two officials exchanged views on issues of mutual interest during their meeting.
Dar stressed the importance of dialogue, diplomacy and continued engagement in promoting peace and stability in the region. Both sides also agreed to remain in close contact as they continue consultations on regional developments.
The meeting comes as Pakistan maintains diplomatic engagement with Iran and other countries over the evolving security situation in the Middle East. Islamabad has repeatedly said that dialogue and diplomatic engagement are important for addressing regional disputes and reducing tensions.
Dar and Araghchi have remained in contact through diplomatic channels during recent months. Their discussions have included regional developments, efforts to promote peace and stability, and Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts related to tensions involving Iran and the United States.
Pakistan’s Foreign Office has also previously said that Islamabad is committed to playing a constructive role in diplomatic efforts aimed at reducing tensions in the region. Dar has held several conversations with Araghchi during the year, including discussions on the evolving regional situation.
The latest meeting took place during the high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly, where Pakistani officials are holding a series of bilateral and multilateral meetings with foreign counterparts. The Foreign Ministry said Dar’s engagements are aimed at advancing Pakistan’s interests and discussing major regional and international challenges.
Pakistan and Iran share a long border and have maintained regular diplomatic and security contacts. Both countries have also stressed the importance of cooperation and communication on issues affecting regional stability.
The meeting between Dar and Araghchi therefore provided another opportunity for the two sides to exchange views directly. While no new agreement was announced, both officials agreed to maintain close contact and continue diplomatic engagement.
Pakistan’s Foreign Ministry has continued to emphasize dialogue and diplomacy as key elements of its approach to regional conflicts. The latest Dar-Araghchi meeting reflects that ongoing diplomatic engagement at the UN General Assembly.
