All-rounder Imad Wasim and opener Shan Masood are the leading candidates to replace Shadab Khan as vice captain for the upcoming home series against New Zealand.

Babar Azam will captain the team for the aforementioned T20I and ODI series against New Zealand after being rested for the Afghanistan series.

After consulting with Babar Azam, the T20I and ODI squads will be chosen for the series at a meeting of the selection committee the following week.

The squad will be announced on the same day as the meeting, which is scheduled for April 4.

According to sources, top PCB officials were dissatisfied with Shadab’s decisions in the Afghanistan series and decided to rest him for the New Zealand series.

Usama Mir, the squad’s leg-spinner, is likely to be given a chance in the New Zealand series in place of Shadab. Mohammad Rizwan is expected to retain his Test team vice-captaincy.

Najam Sethi, chairman of the PCB management committee, will make the final decision on the appointment of a vice captain. Following approval from the PCB chairman, a formal announcement will be made.
