IHC Disappointed By Raid On Sher Afzal Marwat's Home

PTI leader Sher Afzal Khan Marwat accused masked individuals of raiding his residence at 2:00 am, which he shared during a hearing at the Islamabad High Court regarding the recovery of Baloch students. Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani expressed astonishment over the incident, emphasizing that such actions occurred not in Lakki Marwat but in the federal capital, Islamabad.

The court raised concerns about the treatment of an elected lawmaker, questioning the potential repercussions for a common citizen in Balochistan if elected representatives faced such actions. Marwat had initially tweeted about the raid, claiming that the Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) police had conducted the operation, causing damage to doors and confiscating his laptop. However, Islamabad Police denied these claims, stating that they had not raided Marwat’s house and labeling the news as fake.

Justice Kayani criticized the behavior of the inspector general of police (IG), suggesting removal if not rectified. He questioned the necessity of conducting a nighttime raid on someone available during the day. The IHC directed the home secretary to summon the Islamabad IG and CTD officials to obtain a written statement on the matter.

Marwat proposed a ten-day imprisonment for the Islamabad IG to rectify the situation, emphasizing the need to address such actions against an elected member of parliament and Supreme Court advocate. The court expressed dismay over the incident, highlighting the unusual nature of such an occurrence in the federal capital and raising questions about the treatment of elected representatives.
