The government has announced the registration procedure for the Prime Minister’s Special Petrol Relief Scheme, which will provide eligible citizens with a discount of Rs100 per liter on petrol.
The initiative is designed to provide financial relief to owners of motorcycles, rickshaws, Qingqi rickshaws and small-engine vehicles amid rising fuel costs.
The Ministry of Information Technology has developed an automated digital system to manage registration and verification. The system has been established in collaboration with NADRA, telecom operators and provincial departments.
Who Can Get Discounted Petrol?
Under the petrol relief scheme, owners of specific categories of vehicles will be eligible for subsidized petrol.
The scheme covers:
- Motorcycles
- Rickshaws
- Qingqi rickshaws
- Vehicles with engine capacity up to 800cc
Motorcycle and Qingqi rickshaw owners will be eligible for discounted petrol up to 20 liters per month.
Meanwhile, owners of vehicles with engine capacities of up to 800cc will be eligible for a monthly limit of 30 liters.
The discounted petrol will be provided within the specified monthly limits under the government’s relief program.
How to Register for the Petrol Scheme
Citizens seeking the petrol subsidy will need to register through an SMS-based system.
Applicants must send the required information from a SIM registered in their own name.
The registration SMS must include the applicant’s:
- CNIC number
- Vehicle number
- Provincial code
- Vehicle registration date
Authorities will use the information to verify the applicant and vehicle before approving eligibility for the subsidy.
The automated system will be connected with provincial transport and excise departments to verify vehicle details.
Confirmation After Registration
Once the registration process is successfully completed, applicants will receive a confirmation message on their mobile phone.
Citizens should wait for confirmation before attempting to use the discounted petrol facility.
The automated verification process is intended to ensure that the subsidy reaches eligible vehicle owners and that vehicle information matches official records.
How to Get Discounted Petrol
Registered citizens will need to complete an additional step before visiting a petrol station.
Before purchasing subsidized petrol, they must send “TOK” to 9771 from their registered mobile number.
After sending the required message, the applicant will receive a token on their mobile phone.
The token can then be shown at the participating petrol station to receive petrol at the subsidized rate.
Citizens should therefore make sure they have successfully registered and received the required token before going to a petrol pump.
Petrol Relief Scheme for Motorcyclists and Small Vehicles
The scheme is expected to provide targeted relief to people who depend heavily on motorcycles, rickshaws and small vehicles for their daily travel and work.
Motorcycle owners will receive the discount for up to 20 liters each month, while eligible small-car owners can receive the subsidy for up to 30 liters.
For rickshaw and Qingqi rickshaw operators, the discounted fuel could also provide financial support because fuel expenses represent an important part of their daily operating costs.
The government’s digital verification system is intended to reduce the need for manual processing and make the subsidy distribution more organized.
When Will Discounted Petrol Start?
According to the announced schedule, the supply of discounted petrol in Islamabad will begin between Monday and Tuesday midnight.
For other parts of the country, distribution of subsidized petrol is scheduled to begin between Wednesday and Thursday midnight.
Eligible citizens should complete registration and wait for confirmation before attempting to claim the subsidy.
Digital System to Manage Subsidy
The Ministry of Information Technology has developed the system in coordination with NADRA, telecom operators and provincial authorities.
Vehicle verification through transport and excise departments will help authorities confirm registration details and determine whether applicants qualify for the scheme.
The use of a digital process also allows the government to manage registrations and petrol tokens through mobile phones.
The Prime Minister’s Special Petrol Relief Scheme is aimed at providing targeted assistance to eligible vehicle owners by reducing their petrol costs by Rs100 per liter within the specified monthly limits.
Citizens who meet the eligibility requirements should ensure their CNIC, vehicle information and mobile SIM details are correctly registered before applying.
