HEC Opens Law-GAT 2026 Registration for Law Graduates

The HEC has opened online registration for the Law Graduate Assessment Test (Law-GAT) 2026. The test is required for law graduates who want to become eligible for enrolment with the Bar as advocates.

According to the announcement issued by the Higher Education Commission’s Education Testing Council (ETC), passing the Law-GAT is mandatory for law graduates before they can proceed with Bar enrolment. The test aims to evaluate the legal understanding of candidates before they enter professional practice.

Eligible candidates include those who have completed a Bachelor’s degree in Law or an equivalent qualification. Their degree must be obtained from a university recognized by HEC and the Pakistan Bar Council.

The online registration process is currently open. The last date for submitting applications is 19 July 2026. The Law-GAT 2026 examination will be held on 9 August 2026. Candidates are advised to complete their registration before the deadline.

The test will consist of multiple-choice questions (MCQs). Applicants can review the updated syllabus and examination pattern available through the official HEC platform. This will help candidates prepare according to the latest requirements.

Candidates must secure at least 50 marks out of 100 to pass the Law-GAT. Those who fail to achieve the required score will not qualify for further enrolment procedures with the Bar.

Applicants can register online through the Education Testing Council portal. During the application process, candidates must provide accurate personal details. These include their name, CNIC number, mobile number, email address, and selected test centre.

The HEC has advised candidates to carefully check all information before submitting their forms. Any mistake in CNIC details or other important information may result in disqualification.

After completing the application form, candidates must pay the test fee through available 1Link or 1Bill invoice payment services. Applicants will receive a consumer number after generating the fee invoice. Once payment is completed, they must verify the payment status through the ETC dashboard.

The commission will provide roll number slips through the ETC portal. Registered candidates will also receive test-related details through email around one week before the examination date.

Candidates should provide an active email address and mobile number during registration. This will allow them to receive important updates about the test schedule and other instructions.
