Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has removed DC Jhelum Mir Raza Ozgen from his position. The decision came after intermediate computer science examinations were postponed ahead of her scheduled visit to the district.
The controversy began when the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (BISE) changed the examination schedule. The affected papers were originally planned for November 10, 2026.
However, the board later announced that both morning and evening computer science papers would take place on November 30 in Jhelum. The decision followed a recommendation from the district administration.
The postponement was linked to administrative arrangements for the chief minister’s planned visit. The move attracted criticism because it affected students’ examination schedules.
Maryam Nawaz Orders Removal of DC Jhelum
Maryam Nawaz took notice of the decision and ordered the immediate removal of DC Jhelum. She said she had already instructed officials to prevent public inconvenience during her district visits.
The chief minister stressed that official visits should not disrupt routine activities. She considered the postponement a violation of her earlier instructions.
Following her orders, the Punjab government transferred Mir Raza Ozgen from his position. He was directed to report to the Services and General Administration Department for further instructions.
Meanwhile, Asma Ijaz has been appointed as the new deputy commissioner of Jhelum. She is a BS-19 officer belonging to the Pakistan Administrative Service.
Intermediate Computer Science Exams Restored to November 10
Alongside the administrative action, Maryam Nawaz directed authorities to restore the original examination schedule. The affected computer science papers will now be held on Tuesday, November 10.
This means students in Jhelum will no longer have to wait until November 30. The decision reverses the earlier notification issued by BISE Rawalpindi.
The postponement had only affected Jhelum district. Students in other districts under the Rawalpindi board were expected to take their examinations as scheduled.
Maryam Nawaz criticised the district administration’s handling of the matter. She described its actions as unnecessary and said students should not suffer because of arrangements for an official visit.
New Instructions Issued for Officials Across Punjab
After the incident, the chief minister issued fresh instructions to senior administrative and police officials across Punjab.
The directions were shared with commissioners, deputy commissioners, regional police officers and district police officers. They were told not to close markets, shops or businesses during her visits.
Officials were also instructed not to seal residential streets. Residents should not face restrictions on their movement because of security arrangements.
Maryam Nawaz emphasised that security measures should remain discreet. They should protect public safety without creating unnecessary difficulties for ordinary citizens.
She also warned that officials could face strict action for ignoring these instructions.
