Basant will be celebrated in Lahore from March 12 to 14, 2027, following approval from the Punjab cabinet. The provincial government has approved a summary confirming the revised dates for the festival.
The decision follows a proposal submitted by the Lahore deputy commissioner’s office. The office had issued a notification three days earlier, recommending the new schedule for Basant 2027.
Under the proposed arrangements, kite-flying will be permitted across Lahore district during the three-day celebration. However, prohibited areas will remain excluded from the activity.
Participants will also be required to use only approved materials for kite-flying. The government has outlined separate timelines for manufacturing, purchasing, transporting, storing, and selling kites and kite strings.
Basant 2027 Schedule for Kite Sales and Manufacturing
The revised schedule sets different dates for activities related to kite production and distribution. Manufacturing of kites and kite strings will be permitted until March 14, 2027.
The purchase, transportation, and storage of kites and kite strings will be allowed from February 1, 2027. Meanwhile, sales to the general public will begin on February 10.
These arrangements are intended to regulate activities before and during the festival. Participants and businesses involved in kite-related activities will need to follow the approved rules.
Kite-flying will remain subject to restrictions in prohibited areas. The use of approved materials will also be a key requirement throughout the celebrations.
Punjab Government Revises Earlier Basant Dates
The latest decision changes the schedule previously approved by the Punjab government. In September, the provincial cabinet had approved a 10-day Basant period from January 29 to February 7.
That earlier schedule included a break on February 5 to observe Kashmir Day. The newly approved dates instead limit the festival to three days in March.
The revised schedule establishes March 12, 13, and 14 as the dates for the celebrations. The decision follows the provincial government’s review of the proposed arrangements.
Basant Returns to Lahore After More Than Two Decades
Basant has long been associated with Lahore’s cultural traditions and spring celebrations. The festival is particularly known for kite-flying and activities across the city.
This year, Lahore celebrated Basant from February 6 to 8. The event marked the revival of a festival that had remained absent for more than two decades.
Its return renewed public interest in one of the city’s well-known cultural celebrations. The festival also brought attention to the regulations governing kite-flying and related activities.
With the revised dates now approved, preparations can proceed for the March 2027 celebrations. Residents, businesses, and participants will need to follow the official schedule and applicable restrictions.
