Australia Now Accepts TOEFL Scores For Visas

After a temporary suspension that caused concern among visa applicants, TOEFL scores are once again accepted for all Australian visa applications. The Educational Testing Service (ETS), responsible for the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), confirmed this reinstatement on Monday. The suspension, initiated by the Australian Department of Home Affairs (DHA) in July last year, was pending a review.

This renewed acceptance applies to TOEFL exams taken on or after May 5th of this year. During the suspension period, the Australian government recognized alternative English proficiency tests, including the International English Language Testing System (IELTS), Pearson Test of English (PTE), Cambridge English (CAE), and Occupational English Test (OET), tailored for healthcare professionals.

It’s worth noting that while TOEFL scores are now valid again for Australian visas, the country has heightened requirements for international students and immigrants. The TOEFL is a comprehensive assessment evaluating reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills of non-native English speakers, essential for gauging their preparedness for academic endeavors in English-speaking academic institutions globally.

Overall, this development signifies a significant relief for visa applicants, ensuring a wider range of English proficiency options for those aspiring to study or settle in Australia.
