The Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Higher Education Department has introduced a five-day working week for all government and private colleges across the region.
Under the new schedule, colleges will remain open from Monday to Friday, while Saturday and Sunday will be observed as weekly holidays.
The decision has been formally notified by the Higher Education Secretariat and takes effect immediately.
Saturday and Sunday Declared Holidays
According to the notification, both government and private colleges under the administrative control of the Higher Education Department will follow the new five-day working schedule.
College administrations have been directed to ensure that the revised timetable is implemented across their respective institutions.
The change means students and teaching and administrative staff at colleges will now have two consecutive weekly holidays.
Five-Day Working Week Takes Effect
Under the revised arrangement, routine academic and administrative activities will continue from Monday through Friday.
Colleges will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays as part of the new weekly schedule.
The Higher Education Department has instructed all relevant institutions to follow the notification and make the necessary adjustments to their schedules.
Applies to Government and Private Colleges
The new working-week arrangement applies to all government and private colleges operating under the administrative control of the AJK Higher Education Department.
This makes the change applicable across the region rather than being limited to selected institutions.
College administrations are responsible for ensuring that classes and other routine activities are managed within the five-day working week.
New Schedule for Students and Staff
With Saturdays and Sundays now designated as weekly holidays, colleges will operate for five days each week.
The department’s decision provides a uniform working schedule for the institutions covered by the notification.
Students and staff will therefore follow the Monday-to-Friday timetable, while weekends will remain free from routine college activities.
The Higher Education Department is expected to monitor implementation of the new schedule through the concerned college administrations.
