Pakistani actress Hania Aamir has criticised content creators who use women’s bodies, appearances, age and personal lives as subjects of jokes and entertainment.
In an Instagram Story, the Visaal actress said that in 2026, turning aspects of women’s identities and private lives into punchlines was unacceptable.
Aamir argued that describing such content as simply an opinion or humour does not remove its impact. She stressed that there is a difference between offering commentary and turning a woman’s existence into entertainment.
Hania Aamir Calls Out Online Commentary
Aamir said words can have consequences beyond the moment in which they are spoken, particularly when they come from people with large social media platforms.
She also highlighted the role of audiences in determining what becomes normalised online. According to the actress, millions of people watch and engage with content that society collectively decides is funny or acceptable.
She questioned how society can demand better behaviour while continuing to reward content that relies on personal attacks or commentary about women.
‘Women Are Not Public Property’
In her Instagram Story, Aamir made a strong statement about the way women are discussed in public spaces.
“Women are not public property. Their bodies are not public commentary. Their faces are not public discourse,” she said.
The actress urged social media users to reconsider the attention and reach they give to content that turns women into spectacles for entertainment.
Her remarks focused broadly on the treatment of women online rather than targeting a specific individual.
Katrina Kaif Faces Online Criticism
Aamir’s comments came amid online criticism faced by Indian actress Katrina Kaif after she appeared in public following the birth of her son.
Kaif faced discussion and trolling on social media over her appearance, prompting wider conversations about the scrutiny women face after major personal and life changes.
Although Aamir did not name Kaif or any other person in her Instagram Story, her comments came during the same period of online discussion surrounding the actress.
Responsibility of Social Media Audiences
Aamir also placed emphasis on the role of viewers and social media users in shaping online culture.
She suggested that people can influence the kind of content that gains visibility by deciding what they watch, share and engage with.
The actress’s comments reflect a broader discussion around privacy, online commentary and the treatment of women in entertainment and social media spaces.
As social platforms continue to give creators large audiences, debates over the limits of humour and commentary involving public figures remain ongoing.
Aamir’s latest remarks have added to that conversation, with the actress calling for greater consideration of the consequences of turning women’s personal lives, bodies and appearances into entertainment.
