The Quetta Green Bus Service is set to expand with the addition of 17 more electric buses, with the aim of improving public transport access in parts of the provincial capital that currently have limited connectivity.
Quetta Division Commissioner Zeeshan Lashari announced the expansion while chairing a meeting to review the facilities available under the Green Bus Service. The meeting also discussed measures to improve the overall service and make commuting easier for passengers.
During the meeting, the operating agency provided a detailed briefing on the existing routes, bus stops, operations and facilities available to commuters. Officials said that 25 Green Buses are currently operating in Quetta, including four buses reserved exclusively for women.
The women-only buses have also been assigned female staff. The measure is aimed at providing female passengers with a more convenient and comfortable travel experience while using public transport.
The Green Bus Service currently operates on four routes across Quetta. The service remains available from 7am to 9pm, allowing commuters to use the buses throughout most of the day. Several designated bus stops have been established along the routes to facilitate passengers.
Officials said the Kuchlak route has around 40 stops, providing connectivity between different parts of the city and the Kuchlak area. Another route connecting the Metropolitan area with Sariab Road has approximately 50 stops, making it one of the major corridors covered by the service.
The proposed addition of 17 electric buses is expected to increase the service’s capacity and help extend public transport coverage to areas where residents currently have fewer commuting options.
The meeting also reviewed the expansion of the Green Bus Service beyond Quetta. Officials informed the participants that the service has already been extended to Turbat, where four buses are currently operating.
The expansion is part of efforts to improve public transportation facilities in Balochistan and provide residents with more accessible travel options. The introduction of additional buses in Quetta is expected to support growing passenger demand and improve connectivity between different areas of the city.
Authorities are also reviewing existing facilities and routes to identify areas where further improvements may be required. The focus remains on expanding coverage while providing passengers with safer and more convenient public transport services.
